COLORADO, OH HOW I LOVE YOU!

I love Colorado.  I just do.  I knew it from the very first time I came here.  Matt had an internship here when we were in College.  When I came to visit … it was like love at first site.  We picked up our lives and moved here straight out of college, just married, and set up shop.  I wouldn’t change a thing.  We love the outdoors.  We LOVE the mountains.  Two weeks ago we headed up to Keystone for a day of skiing (and Matt Boarding).  This is what I caught with my iPhone on the way home.  I really want to frame this one.

I’ll be out of the office today at a workshop – but will be back tomorrow!  Happy Thursday!

MEMOIRS OF A DENVER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

It’s Friday again – time for another Flavorful Friday post.  You’ve heard me say it before.  I LOVE to be behind the camera.  I get so excited to click the shutter and capture a little moment in time.  On the other hand, I absolutely HATE to be in front of the camera.  I get all twisted and butterfly-ish.  I am not sure what it is?  I know how to act when I get in front of the camera … but I am just not one that likes having my picture taken.  I think it’s this very reason that I have perfected my craft and work extra hard to make my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Last weekend, we had a little mini-vacation in Tabernash Colorado with Natalie’s family.  It was an absolute blast … from Natalie’s fondue – to my lasagna … there is probably more than one reason that I resented the pictures that would be taken (as I am sure I gained 10 lbs in one weekend) :)  Natalie’s fondue deserves a post of it’s own, so stay tuned.  Anyway, we decided to do pseudo family sessions in sub degree temperatures.  Natalie did an amazing job of capturing our family – exactly how we are.  We laugh and love a lot.  Natalie – thank you for giving us such amazing pictures and memories.  Without further ado – here’s our family through Natalie’s viewfinder!

VALENTINES DAY – DENVER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

It’s so me.  It’s the day AFTER Valentines Day.  The day AFTER I am supposed to profess my love of my wonderful husband.  I’m always late with holidays – and I suck about that.  I know. I think he knows I love him.  He loves me even when I’m late …

So – in true Karie Fashion – Here’s our LOVE story.

We met in high school.  We were seniors.  We were young, naieve, maybe never expected to be together forever. We were friends first, fell in love second. We were best friends. We knew something was special.  We went to college. We loved each other more.  We never went to the same school – and always shared a distance relationship of at least a few hours.  We broke up once in a stupid fight – I lost 10 lbs. We got back together a few days later. We agreed that life wasn’t good at all without each other. We did summer internships in different states – He in Denver, me in LA. We never wanted to be apart again. We got engaged that Summer – he proposed in San Francisco on our way back to Kansas (to finish our last year of college). We planned to move away after college.  We moved to Colorado and LOVED it. We started our corporate jobs – I was miserable. We decided it was okay for me to live my dream. We made sacrafices – good ones, the ones that made me get where I am today. We had a baby.  We are in love with her – she is pretty awesome. We are still in love.  A lot.

February 8th, we were officially “together” for 10 years.  I can’t wait to look back and say, we have been together longer than we had lived life apart.

This weekend we spent some time with great friends in Tabernash.  As I started an impromptu photo session with Natalie, I caught my two loves (the loves of my life in fact), peeking out the window at me.  I don’t know why I love this simple photo.  But I do.  Our love is simple, maybe as simple as a smile through a window, but to me – it is Oh So Special!

I hope all of you had a super Happy Valentines Day with your sweeties!

Sorry for the sappy love mush – I promise not to do it again … for at least a few months.  June maybe?  Our 6 year wedding anniversary! Deal.

Lauren — so cute!   ( February 15, 2010 @ 5:39 pm )

Jenny — Adorable, I love a good LOVE story and you have one that rocks!   ( February 16, 2010 @ 5:41 pm )

Nilufer Soucek — I love this photo. It captures that moment that we rarely see - the moment where our loved ones are watching us when they think we aren't looking. I find that the soul of a relationship is in that look. That true love and true devotion. Great shot!   ( February 25, 2010 @ 12:06 am )

FLAVORFUL FRIDAYS – DENVER LIFESTYLE PORTRAITS

For today’s Flavorful Friday post, I wanted to share a sneak peek from a session I did of my daughter recently. She is growing so fast, and I love her more than words.  There are a lot more of these to come … but here are a few of my faves.  Stay tuned Monday for some EXCITING News!

FLAVORFUL FRIDAYS – PERSONAL EDITION

It’s like walking in to the gym on the first few days following New Years.  Everyone is there.  Everyone is doing their resolution.  But then, when you go to the gym even a month later, most of those newbies have already fallen of the wagon.  I’m one of those today.  Sadly, I have already broken a few of my resolutions.  My iPhone addiction is still there :)  I haven’t staged my intervention yet.  And, I have been working a lot (and not sticking to my plan of taking at least 36 hours in a row off {at least once a week}).  So, I have already failed.  Sadly.  But, the good news is … I still have plenty of time to turn that around.  They say it takes a long time to break old habits right… So, I am going to keep working at those.

In the mean time – we have a super awesome even this weekend!  And I have been working around the office today.  Since I am not very good at sharing the rest of my family (ex. those that don’t include my love Matt, or my daughter), I thought I would show you the team that is working with me today to complete the rest of the editing on my plate.

Yours truly – the Queen Bee (and a little off camera flash). I just realized how much I really dislike this shirt!

I should note – a good friend of mine who is also a fab photographer, has been hounding me for months to take pics of my other kiddos (the dogs).  So this one is for you girl!

Happy Friday Everyone!  Have an amazing weekend!
