BEST OF 2009 ENGAGEMENTS AND COUPLES

SO many favorites! I really had a hard time narrowing these down.  Stay tuned for the Weddings Post :)

**Update – I had a total STRAWBERRY Blonde moment. I had some sessions on a different hard drive and found some more amazing and awesome couples from 2009 (engaged and expecting).  Sorry for my brain delay.  I am still blaming it on Mommy Brain.  When can I stop claiming that? :) **.

A HUGE thanks to all of you who shared your love stories with me!!  Hugs and Love – Karie

FLAVORFUL FRIDAYS, GOALS, INSPIRATION, AND RANDOM THOUGHTS

With 2010 quickly approaching, I am revising my goals as a small business owner, photographer, Mom, Wife … and the 1000 other roles that I do nearly daily. It seems like so often, I get caught in the hustle and bustle and forget about myself. I LOVE my job … so much … I really do! But, I always have things to do and improve on.  I often forget that life exists outside of my computer and clients :)

A few weeks ago, I asked a question to my peers on Twitter. I asked, “What is your biggest goal for 2010″. I got some awesome responses from other work a holics like myself. One of my favorites was to live an “unstressed life”. And another fave was to “achieve simplicity”. I think I would like to incorporate both of these in to my biggest goal of 2010. I am striving first and foremost to achieve a better work/life balance. I love my job so much that it is really hard for me to stop working. I have even joked that I would like to install an “off” button for my mind. I have yet to find that one. So, I thought that today, I would share some of the things that I intend to achieve for 2010 in hopes that it may inspire some of my readers to share their own in the comments below. If you leave a comment on this post, you will automatically be entered in our super fab drawing and the winner will receive a gift card to one of my favorite places. So, leave some love in the comments section by stating what your biggest goal is for 2010!

1.  Achieve a better Work/Life Balance (Check email only twice daily, workout, read/journal inspiration daily, spend more time with my family and friends who I love dearly, stage my own intervention with my iPhone).

2.  Continue to LOVE what I do everyday and strive to be more successful at every realm of business (this includes book keeping (which I hate and thankfully hired a great one over a year ago)).

3.  Blog More: I get this request a lot from my readers but fear my life is too boring to pour out every detail. I will work on this for my fab clients, blog readers, and fans.

4. Be inspired by life!

5. Share and help others who want to learn – I truly believe in this! It makes our industry stronger as a whole.

6. Make the switch – you know, the all out photographer brawl between Canon and Nikon (yes, I intend to switch from Canon).

7.  Keep my car cleaner (Hey, it’s pretty much my second home during the busy season … I am working on it).

8.  Lose that last bit of “baby fat” that is following me around :) It either stuck around since I was a baby or since I had a baby.  One of the two (and I am guessing the latter).

9.  Be BOLD (if you have met me, you know I am, but I intend to carry this through in many ways)

10.  Shoot more! This includes things not work related … and finally decorate my house with my own art!

11. An oldie but goody - DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING! (FYI, this often embarasses my husband in the car)

So that’s it.  What is your 2010 goal?

SARAH + ANDREW, ENGAGED! DENVER RAILROAD ENGAGEMENT

When I first met Sarah, I saw how gorgeous she was.  Are you kidding me with those amazing blue eyes?  She boasted about her fiance, how awesome he was, and how much she missed him since he now lives out of state.  Truth be told, I knew Sarah was amazing from the moment I met her.  Then I met Andrew.  Helllloooo, more blue eyes :)  These two are awesomely amazing people, and when they are together, the world better watch out.

We had so much fun in the cold … and melting snow (yeah, I stepped in a puddle and sank up to my ankle in 30 degree weather, but my cold piggy’s said it was worth it, and they were right!) to capture their love.  Sarah and Andrew, thanks for bringing the awesome.  I have WAY too many favorites from this shoot.  I am so happy for you and your upcoming wedding!  Hugs – Karie!

FLAVORFUL FRIDAYS, WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

SW Button

A lot has been going on behind the scenes here at KMP.  For one thing, we are SUPER excited about StudioWed.  The website is now live, so I would encourage all of you potential clients, and current clients to check it out.  We know it will be an amazing resource for you if you are planning a wedding.  You can click HERE to view the website.  The studio is scheduled to open in January!  Stay tuned for more information.

Secondly, tis the season to be engaged!  The Knot put out recent stats that stated that 40% of couples get engaged over the holidays.  If you are just getting engaged, or recently engaged, and getting ready to look for photographers, here are a few articles that we feel are important in making your decision.

FLAVORFUL FRIDAYS, ALBUM EDITION #2

Two weeks ago I started talking about my album workflow for photographers with albums.  I get TONS of questions from photographers about this.  Truth is, albums really are a lot of work.  It is so rewarding to watch them come together for my clients and tell the WHOLE story of the day, but I have a system that works very well, and is repeated for each client.

This next paragraph is mostly for photographers, and answering the questions I have recently received: Because we return a ton of images to the client after the wedding, I go through and make an initial album design for my clients.  I began using Project Workroom for my clients to review the design and make changes.  Let me say, it has been amazing!  Check them out!  I use Adobe InDesign to design the layout of my albums.  It has drastically decreased my design time … and is so much more fluid than Photoshop.  If you are not using InDesign, you should be.  I use the software now for my marketing materials, album designs, business cards.  It is just a fabulous Graphic Design software!  It also allows you to make templates that you will use again. My clients make their changes, submit them to me, and the album is sent to print!

As I said last week, I make my albums no nonsense designs.  The images speak for themselves on clean white backgrounds.  I also hate to cram too many images on a page, as I feel it gets distracting from the story.  Here are a few recent album spreads.

That’s it … It’s my 2 cents on album design.  I hope it answered a lot of you photographer’s questions.

Bill Nixon — Karie, Thank you for this post. I have been using my online gallery and having them send me emails. It is a little confusing for the client. This looks like a really great solution to a tricky process. I wish that Project Workroom had a demo, but the screens shots look intuitive enough. I may give them a try. Thanks again for the post.   ( December 4, 2009 @ 9:55 pm )
